Status Report

I'm very grateful for all the words of support and encouragement you've given me over the duration of this trip. They have carried me much of the way.

This morning I took a taxi to Sarria, which is 111km east of Santiago. This is the last point from which a pilgrim can walk to Santiago and receive a Compostella.

I have had to drain the blister on my right pinky toe and it is indeed tender. The left is too tender to drain. Doing so would render me unable to put weight on it at all.

I have just 7 days available to me to walk. The walk from Sarria is typically done in 5 days. I will try to resume my trek tomorrow morning, hopefully at 6am. Rain is expected from 11-3a. I have no expectations as far as what my body will allow or how far it will carry me.

Today has been a hard day mentally.

I will report back tomorrow.

Love,
JR

  1. Praying for you to feel better, both physically and mentally. I have so much admiration for you and what you are doing. As for me, I know that my spirit is willing, but I also know that I could never accomplish what you are doing....not to mention that you are walking for many of us!! May G*d bless you and give you the strength to continue and finish your blessed journey. You are a special woman!

  7. It's good that you're giving your feet a rest today. Maybe that will do the trick and you can walk the rest of the way. Just enjoy this rest and see how things are tomorrow. Will be paying for you!

  9. Take care and take your time. It is the journey not the destination, from which we learn. Love you!

  10. Try the silicone patch on the outside of sock if you can. I mentioned in your previous post. They are silicone tubes from pharmacy. It protects from some friction. Will pray Sharon

  15. Jill, Your trip has been amazing to follow! You are amazing. Thank you for sharing with us your experiences of joy, sorrow, and wonder, and pain shared with fellow kindred spirits you meet along the way. I can't wait to do it some day! The fact that you've already done it makes me ask "what do you have to prove to yourself?" Is God showing you HIS way is not always your way? May you experience the joyous sights, sounds, and life on the Camino for only 7 more days! God speed!

  16. Jill, It's a great feeling when God shows up just in time (the people you meet are placed there by God)but the best is when you realize He has never left you. Keep focused on Him. He has your business back, wish He had your feet;) Give Him your fear and worry. Safe travels and many blessings!

  21. Jill, I don't know you personally, but want to tell you how moved and inspired I have been by reading about your journey. Thank you so much for sharing everything, the good and the bad. I sincerely appreciate your raw honesty. I would love to go on the Camino, but not sure I have the courage and stamina to do so; it's something I think and pray about. So, I appreciate journeying along vicariously through you. I hope you feel proud and inspired by your experiences and accomplishments. You've gone through many highs and lows; I realize things haven't gone exactly as you planned. However, all of the experiences you've had along the way, people you've met, lessons learned...those are the blessed moments of pilgrimage that will be with you forever, whether you did everything you wanted to do or whether you fly home today. You are journeying along the path God has planned for you and He is pleased. Many people are praying for you along 'The Way' and appreciate all that you have shared. May God bless you and keep you safe as you continue your pilgrim journey!

  22. Jill,
Your writing takes me there again, and I can feel your frustration, pain and other emotions that come with it all. Your encounters are beautiful nonetheless. You clearly notice that in the wonderful way you share them. I am anticipating next a ride on the back of a Galician cowboy's horse or bartering a mountain bike from St. James himself.
To totally mix cultural references...next time you purchase a beer, pour a little out for your homie in NYC.

I do hope things seem brighter for you today! There is absolutely no failure in any of what you are going through! We all see courage and triumph in your words and NOTHING else! Still praying for you every morning after mass ( and Lino ) ... God's speed!
